150px-shilpa_shetty.jpgShilpa Shetty (Tulu: ಶಿಲ್ಪ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ; born 8 June 1975) is an Indian film actress and model. Since making her debut in the film Baazigar (1993), she has appeared in nearly 50 Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language films, her first leading role being in the 1994 Aag. Although she went through years of decline during her career, Shetty was willing to reinvent herself quite often. Her performances in Dhadkan (2000) and Rishtey (2002) were appreciated, while her portrayal of an AIDS patient in Phir Milenge (2004), won her many accolades. Her younger sister Shamita Shetty is also a Bollywood film actress.

Shetty has been embroiled in various controversies including suspected mafia links. In 2006 she was issued with a warrant on charges of obscenity. After taking part in the British Celebrity Big Brother TV show in 2007, Shetty was crowned the winner with 63% of the final vote,[1] after an international racism controversy involving her and fellow contestants Jade Goody, Jo O’Meara and Danielle Lloyd. This was followed by her comeback to films in 2007 when she acted in two successive movies, Life in a… Metro and Apne, with her performance in the former drawing positive reviews. Shetty thus re-established her status in the film industry.[2]

Biography

Shilpa Shetty was born in a strict and traditional close-knit family[3] that hails from the matrilineal Bunt community[4] of Tulu Nadu. Although she was born in Tamil Nadu, she describes herself as a Mangalorean.[5] She is the eldest daughter of Surendra and Sunanda Shetty, manufacturers of tamper-proof caps for the pharmaceutical industry,[3] and her native language is Tulu although she can speak nearly ten other languages at differing levels, including English, Tamil, Kannada, Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Telugu, Urdu and basic French.[6] One of her nicknames is “Silly Pooh”.[7]

She attended St. Anthony Girls’ High School, located in Chembur, and later attended Podar College. A trained Bharatanatyam dancer, she is also into sports and was the captain of the volleyball team in school and earned a black belt in Karate and currently a dancesport expert and enthusiast.[8]

Shetty currently lives in Mumbai with her parents and younger sister Shamita Shetty, who is a budding Bollywood actress. They worked together once in the film Fareb (2005). At 5 ft 7 inches (178 cm), she is one of the tallest actresses in Bollywood.
Career

Film career

180px-shilpa6.jpgShetty started her career by modelling for Limca in 1991 at age 16,[9] and made her film debut in 1993 with Baazigar, portraying a woman murdered by her psychopathic boyfriend. Shetty took the supporting role of Seema, co-starring alongside Shahrukh Khan and Kajol; the film was a major success and earned her a nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.[10]

Her first leading role was in the film Aag in 1994, which was averagely received at the box office. She had a hit that same year with the film Main Khiladi Tu Anari opposite Akshay Kumar.[11] This was followed by many films which were average to poor performers at the box office. Shetty starred in another big film that year Aao Pyar Karen followed by Hathkadi in 1995 where she was working alongside actors such as Saif Ali Khan, Govinda and Madhoo but they failed at the box office. 1997 was one of her busiest years, she appeared in six different films, beginning with the small Telugu language film Veedeva Dani Babu. Her first major Bollywood film of that year was the action thriller Auzaar. Shilpa portrayed the character of Prathna Thakur alongside actors Salman Khan and Sanjay Kapoor. In 1998, she had one release, Pardesi Babu, for which she received critical acclaim and won the Bollywood Movie Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 2000 Shetty received much acclaim for her role in Dhadkan which earned reasonable takings at the Indian box office.[12] She received several nominations under the Best Actress category in different award ceremonies. She would later go on to star with Anil Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor in the film Rishtey (2002). Her comic performance as an eccentric fisherwoman was appreciated and she received a nomination under the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award category, and various nominations for Best Comedian as well. “Hannah Montana” wins box office Super Bowl | Link Me (New)

Posted by admin | Articles, Bollywood | Monday 4 February 2008 10:58 am

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Walt Disney’s 3-D movie “Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert” topped movie box offices, raking in $29 million for the biggest opening over a normally slow Super Bowl weekend, according to studio estimates on Sunday.

With professional football’s championship game dominating the entertainment landscape, the 3-D movie of Cyrus’ (aka Hannah Montana) 2007 singing tour brought teenage girls streaming into theaters with their parents, said Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group.

“We’re looking at this and realizing we made a little piece of movie history,” Zoradi said. “This has been a family movie, and we’ve had lots of parents exiting theaters saying, ‘thank you because we couldn’t get into any of her concerts.’”

Supernatural thriller “The Eye,” starring Jessica Alba, took the No. 2 slot at U.S. and Canadian box offices with a $13 million weekend. The No. 3 movie was romantic comedy “27 Dresses” with $8.4 million, according to industry tracker Media By Numbers.

Rounding out the top five were teen pregnancy comedy “Juno” at No. 4 with a weekend haul of $7.5 million, bringing its total ticket sales to $110 million. In the No. 5 position was last week’s champ, action adventure “Meet the Spartans,” with $7.1 million for the weekend and $28 million overall.

HANNAH’S HUGE HIT

Cyrus, the teenage daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, portrays the title character of Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel cable TV program of the same name. Hannah leads a typical teenage life by day, but has a secret singing career on weekends. The show is a hit with young viewers.

The concert movie’s No. 1 performance was even more important in Hollywood for several reasons

Upen fooled Celina Jaitley | Link Me (New)

Posted by admin | Bollywood | Tuesday 25 December 2007 12:37 am

celina2masala_big1.jpgCelina Jaitley is not laghing at Upen Patel’s prank that he pulled on the forer Miss indiaa in Mauritius on the sets of Kumar Mangat’s Money Hai Toh Honey Hai.

In the middle of the shooting schedule, producer decided to let the actors take a break for two days. However, on the first day, Celina was woken up by a call from Upen who pretended to be the film’s production assistant and told her that the break was called off and shooting will begin in a few hours.

Then what, Celina jumped out of the bed, summoned her hairdresser and make-up man, got ready and left for the sets.

When she reached, she got a call from Upen who called her from his mobile number and spoke in his usual voice. Upen told her that he had played a joke on her. So Celina had to return.

Obviously Celina did not like the prank and was a bit upset. But looking back now, she finds the prank funny.

Rakhi should’ve shown dignity | Link Me (New)

Posted by admin | Bollywood | Tuesday 25 December 2007 12:34 am

aamirsanjeeda.jpgAfter high voltage and exhaustive performances for 13 weeks, small screen’s not-so-well-known actors, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Aamir Ali, have been voted the best dancing couple of “Nach Baliye 3″, defeating the popular drama queen Rakhi Sawant and her partner Abhishek Awasthi.

Thanks to the show, the Sanjeeda-Aamir duo has now become household names.

“Nach Baliye” selects celebrities from the small screen and throws them together in the challenging competition with their real life partners. This year 11 couples participated.

The search for the best dancing couple ended after Saturday midnight with Sanjeeda-Aamir dancing away with the first prize of Rs.2 million and a car while their choreographers Arun and Chetan won Rs.1 million.

Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khan, who entertained the viewers with his one-liners and did many jigs to his hit numbers, announced the winners and gave away the prizes.

Before naming the winners, Salman made a request: “Please don’t cry after the announcement because we have not come to mourn here.”

However, Rakhi couldn’t keep Salman’s request. When the results were announced, the drama queen - touted as the sure shot winner - was visibly shocked and immediately left the stage with her partner. She didn’t even stay to take the runners up trophy.

The camera captured her crying and sobbing. Later, talking to a television channel, she alleged that votes had been tampered with and she was included in the show merely as a publicity tool.

Dressed in blue and silver, Sanjeeda and Aamir made a perfect couple. Unlike Rakhi, they maintained their poise and controlled their anxiety before the announcement and excitement after winning the trophy.

Talking to press, post event, Aamir reacted to Rakhi’s walkout by saying, ” I think Rakhi should have kept her dignity and accepted the results in the right spirit.”

Meanwhile Rakhi is still sour about her Nach experience. “I’ve stopped believing in God,” says Rakhi who has decided that she will not step into a temple until justice is done.

“I’m not doing it for publicity. I have worked so hard for this show. Both Abhishek and I have made huge sacrifices,” she adds.

”Our voting lines had closed four hours before the results were announced. Star Plus has paid lakhs to people in call centres to vote for Aamir and Sanjeeda. I know of a company who did flood voting for the other couple.

I think Star Plus should rename the show to Star Baliye, so only their actors can take part and win. I will never take part in another reality show. It has been the worst experience of my life.”

However the judges, including choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant, director David Dhawan and actress Isha Koppikar, were not complaining at all.

They were satisfied with the two finalists’ dance technique, choreography and presentation and the final result.

rakhiabhishek1_big.jpgOther “funny” awards distributed in the grand final round were Haan Ji Haan which went to Kashmira Shah-Krishna; Bol Baliye was given to the most talkative contestant Pooja Bedi; the Mind Blowing couple award went to the hosts Hussain-Tina; Most Damdar Jodi went to Rakhi-Abhishek; Karan-Amita got the Most Mazedar couple award; Shweta-Alex won the most Damdar Jodi trophy; the most Manpasand Jodi award was given to Kavita-Karan.

Sachin and Supriya, the winner of the first “Nach Baliye”, performed for the grand finale and Laughter Champion Ehsaan Qureshi tickled the funny bones of the viewers with his jokes.

Mika: Why this attitude Rakhi | Link Me (New)

Mika: Why this attitude RakhiRakhi Sawant’s wild allegations that Star Plus rigged the results of Nach Baliye 3 has given Bhai of Indi-pop, Mika Singh, perfect opportunity to hit back at Rakhi Sawant.

“Rakhi left NB 3 because she was too scared,” he says and adds, “I vroom around in a car worth Rs 1.5 crore and she has managed only a small car till now. I fail to understand what’s the reason behind her attitude!”

Mika, who has made an entry into SaharaOne’s reality show Jjhoom India, is back in his I-don’t-care-what-the- judges-say mode. He clarifies, “Judges should not forget their limits when they give comments.

Talking about judges, his fondness for Urmila, a judge on an earlier reality show where Mika had participated is not hidden, he reveals, “Urmila is a fine actress. Even if she gave bad reviews to my dancing style, I told her it was music to my ears. But, after being eliminated, I haven’t been in touch with her.”

Is Prachi lying about her age? | Link Me (New)

Posted by admin | Bollywood, News Updates | Tuesday 25 December 2007 12:28 am

prachi.jpgIt’s been a week since Balaji bahu Prachi Desai managed to win the ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ trophy and the cash prize money beating the fabulous dancer Sandhya Mridul who also happened to be the favourite of two judges, Shiamak Davar and Urmila Matondkar.

This was followed by extensive reports in the media that the final was rigged, especially since the winner had entered the contest through a mysterious wild card entry (which was not there in the original format and not in the last season of JDJ). One week on and the discontent continues to simmer.

It’s a fact that Sandhya and other deserving people’s defeat has shocked and disillusioned many. A production person who has been with the biggest soap factory for years on the condition of anonymity too (to our surprise) decided to speak out against what he thinks is ‘ a gross injustice’.

“Of course something was wrong about the whole thing. In reality shows, we mostly have male winners. So that way chocolate boy Jay Bhanushali should have won. In fact, apart from ‘Li’l Champs’ last year, where the kid Sanchita won, the only competition that has had female winners is ‘Jhalak Dikkla Jaa’.

Last time too, not many were happy when Mona Singh beat the lovely Shveta Salve. But at least Mona was not ousted and then made a re-entry through some wild card entry.

It was such blatant partiality happening around with Jeetuji also openly supporting Prachi and not praising the much better performers enough. One could actually sense the wrong vibes.”

Continuing his rant he said, “There are so many hardworking artistes in Balaji. But Prachi is now the most privileged one there. In fact she has taken Anita Hassanadani’s place in Ekta’s heart.

The way Ekta tried (though with not very successful results) to push Anita into Bollywood, the same has been the case with Prachi now. She might talk about being young, but doesn’t look so. Looks like her so called age too is a created, over hyped thing.

She is an average looker. But today ahead of much prettier TV actresses she is getting a chance to work with Farhan Akhtar in Ekta’s cousin Abhishek Kapoor’s movie.

Good for Prachi, she is making hay while the sun shines so bright. She has been very smart unlike the sweet teenager she claims to be. She has completely won over Ekta.

As for the rest, they can only feel jealous and sidelined. But then we can only hope that the ultimate winner is the one who plays a clean game and achieves things on his/her oWn, not by piggybacking.”

“There is something else which shouldn’t be ignored too. Prachi was all polite with Urmila Matondkar and Shiamak Davar who pointed out her technical flaws throughout the show.

But once the show got over, I read her talking about how Urmila could say that she felt Sandhya is the winner when actually she has the trophy. Is it because their marks are of no use for her now?

Urmila was only speaking her heart out, the truth which is completely fair. They are saying she won as she as Bani is popular. Then why was she ousted in the first place in the Diwali episode?” he argues.

Point to be noted, but then we can’t add more to this as the winner has already taken it all. Ekta Kapoor has already given her set of clarifications in the media. We would say we really don’t need to say anything more as things can only get dirtier if we do.

For first time SRK wan’t acting | Link Me (New)

Posted by admin | Bollywood, News Updates | Tuesday 25 December 2007 12:26 am

ranbir.jpgThe only thing in common between Ranbir Kapoor and Vinay Pathak is talent. A huge amount of screen presence makes them the most accomplished performers of 2007.

While Ranbir just took over the screen in his debut vehicle “Saawariya” with his endearing transparency, Vinay Pathak, a rank-outsider from Bihar with no filmy connections, stood at the opposite end of the spectrum with his performance as the very filmy, very annoying and real joker at the dinner in “Bheja Fry”.

It proved talent is nurtured in the unlikeliest of places. You could be Raj Kapoor’s grandson or just his fan from Bihar; you are equally qualified to blow the screen apart. And yes, Ranbir’s father Rishi Kapoor was quite a treat in Vipul Shah’s “Namastey London”.

Father and son Pankaj and Shahid Kapur also gave accomplished performances in two different films. Though a little too callow for the role, Shahid carried off the grieving executive’s part in “Jab We Met” with arresting aplomb. Pankaj exploded the screen with his dynamo performances in “Dharm” and “The Blue Umbrella”. What an actor!

Then the redoubtable Bachchans - Amitabh and Abhishek. The Big B proved himself to be Amitabh Wry Bachchan as the dry cynical chef in “Cheeni Kum”.

A few months later I saw Catherine Zeta-Jones play the same role in “No Reservations”. Copycat! However, I felt Tabu stole the show from the awesome Amitabh in “Cheeni Kum”.

tabu5masala_big.jpg“Nishabd” earlier during the year would rank as one of Amitabh’s most underrated performances ever. His 10-minute monologue at the end where he tells us why he didn’t end his life after the end of love will rank among the great joys of cinema in 2007.

Junior Bachchan just slipped into Dhirubhai Ambani’s role in “Guru”. The slouch was ouch. But hey, Abhishek conducted himself with much credibility in the biopic. And wife Aishwarya Rai wasn’t far behind with a solid supporting role.

My female performers of the year were Kareena Kapoor in “Jab We Met” and Tabu in “Cheeni Kum”. They were such studies in contrast! While one was exuberant, vivacious and all there, the other was quiet, introspective and dreamy.

Oh, what talent our industry has! If Tabu requires no words to let you know she’s the goddess of all celluloid things, her aunt Shabana Azmi blew the screen apart in two short-films - “Positive” by Farhan Akhtar and Rohit Roy’s “Rice Plate”.

In Farhan’s very accomplished film, Shabana’s character simply touched her dying husband’s hand to let you know she had forgiven him. And that young actor Arjun Mathur who plays Irrfan’s gay lover in Mira Nair’s “Migration” and Shabana’s morose son in “Positive” has an interesting presence.

At the other end of the spectrum little Sweeni Khara was also dying in “Cheeni Kum”. As the wise-and-wonderful Sexy, Sweeni was sexy. And I say this at the risk of the moralists lynching me.

Clearly the year of child performers, what with little Sweeni matching the Big B and towering Tabu scene by scene and that bundle of talent Dwij Yadan giving Bobby Deol a run for his money in “Nanhe Jaisalmer”.

And at the end of the year, that bundle of bratty brilliancy, Darsheel Safary, bringing madness to Aamir Khan’s method… the kids seemed to take over the screen in “Taare Zameen Par”.

Vidya Balan surprised with her light-and-shade play of hope and dejection in “Guru” and “Bhool Bhulaiyaa”. The rage she expressed in her climactic dance in the latter just blew everyone else out of sight.

Raima Sen as the spirited spunky gregarious Bengali housewife in Reema Kagti’s “Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd” proved herself to be Suchitra Sen’s bump-and-grind-granddaughter.

Esha Deol played the affable ghost in “Darling”. Her expressions of anguish were so real I wondered where this star-daughter learnt to be so unhappy!

Tabu must immediately be stopped from languishing in self-imposed exile. She was extraordinary in “Cheeni Kum” and then again in Mira Nair’s “The Namesake”. Irrfan Khan, who played her husband, whooped it up with glorious unselfconsciousness with Konkona Sen Sharma in “Life…In A Metro”.

While Irrfan came into his own in 2007, Konkona, I’m afraid, showed signs of over-confidence especially in “Aaja Nachle”. However, she is a brilliant actress and a pleasure to behold always.

Shefali Shah as Mahatma Gandhi’s wife in “Gandhi My Father” could’ve easily become Nirupa Roy in “Deewaar” or “Raakhee” in “Shakti”. Just how she managed to imbue such incandescent dignity to a dangerously stereotypical role is anyone’s guess.

Two quirky male performers caught my eye in 2007 - Ranveer Shorey as the doped-out street wanderer in “Traffic Signal” was the summit of poignancy, hard to achieve for an actor who has an essentially comic image.

konkona_big.jpgAnd in Sohail Khan we’ve our first cartoon-strip hero. As a horny Rajasthani trying to celebrate his delayed first wedding night in “Salaam-e-Ishq”, Sohail was a laugh riot and arguably the funniest guy on screen in 2007.

Jameel Khan, as the organiser of a music reality show in “Loins Of Punjab Presents”, epitomised the virtues of sinfully over-the-top acting.

And let’s end with the inimitable Shah Rukh Khan. He was a scintillating bundle of wound-up angst in “Chak De! India”. For the first time in his career he didn’t seem to be acting at all. For that we shall always remain grateful to director Shimit Amin who managed to even out the excesses of King Khan’s other big blockbuster “Om Shanti Om” in 2007.

Glamour is not shedding clothes: Vidya Balan | Link Me (New)

Posted by admin | Bollywood, Celebrity Corner, Interviews | Tuesday 25 December 2007 12:20 am

vidya2_big.jpgVidya Balan is one of the busiest actors in Bollywood. She takes a breather for a heart-to-heart with Subhash K Jha…

Life looks good to you?
Yeah. I’ve just completed Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Halla Bol. He’s a wonderful director, so much to learn. Ummmmm….And what an experience Guru was.

IIt’s every actor’s dream to work with Mani. I’m blessed to have worked with him so early in my career. No matter how busy I’m, I take time off every day to say thanks to God for making so many dreams come true.

The more he gives the more I wish to thank him. You and John Abraham seemed like a strange combination in Salaam-e-Ishq?
That’s what makes it so exciting. Nikhil’s entire team was within the same age group as me. I had a blast on the shoot. It was like being at a party. Touchwood, so far I’ve been comfortable with every unit I’ve worked with.

I’d rather remain non-controversial and focus on my work. From Pradeep Sarkar to Mani Rathnam… I’ve learnt so much ! It may be a cliché to say so, but I’m growing every day.

And such a wide spectrum of actors, from Mr Bachchan to Madhavan.
Ha, I can’t call Mr Bachchan my co-star. That’s a little too much. As for Madhavan, I was supposed to have worked with him in a couple of Tamil films some time ago. Those didn’t work out.

Now we finally did Guru. My equation with Maddy is completely coloured by my affection for his son Vedaant. He’s an adorable child with big blue eyes.

One keeps hearing of you being in this and that project?
I think I’ve been very honest with every producer who has approached me. What I need to do is learn more tact while saying I don’t have dates. I’ve had a very big producer telling me I had no business to turn down his assignment because I’m a newcomer. But as an individual it’s my right to say no rather than be evasive.

vidya_john_big.jpgOne keeps seeing you doing glamorous photo shoots. Trying to move away from the Parineeta image?
Yes, I’ve been doing different photo-shoots. They want the other side of me. I’m only doing what I ‘m comfortable with. There was one picture where the outfit was much too revealing for me.

I went around hiding the magazine from my father. I don’t think glamour is about taking off clothes. If it was Madhubala, Rekha or Sridevi wouldn’t have been glamorous. Rekha in all her finery and jewellery is so glamorous!

And Aishwarya Rai… she’s the epitome of grace. We hardly had scenes together in Guru. But on many occasions I felt she was my sister. I truly admire the way she conducts herself. Even her sneeze is written about. That can’t beeasy.

 vidya_balan_big.jpgAnd Sanjay Dutt?
(bursts into laughter) I heard about my affair with him. Wonder where that came from! I think we were linked because he’s the only hero with whom I’ve done three films. I don’t think anyone took it seriously.

Whether it’s John, Saif or Sanju, I’m not in touch with them outside the sets. People take my link-ups with Dada (Parineeta director Pradeep Sarkar) more seriously. I’ve come to terms with the rumours about us. I guess I’ll just have to live with that.

Who’re your friends in the industry?
None except Raima Sen. We click because we’re like chalk and cheese. I pamper her to no end. We don’t meet that often these days. She’s one madcap. I restrain her quite often.

Aaja Nachle | Link Me (New)

Posted by admin | Bollywood | Saturday 8 December 2007 5:08 am

aaja-nachle1.jpgIt’s not only Makbul Fida Husain who booked the whole theater for his favorite actress, but there are millions of other die hard fans of Madhuri Dixit who are equally anxious to watch her in ‘Aaja Nachle’. Not only the moviegoers but the whole entertainment industry is waiting to see the crispy and spicy Madhuri in her old style!

The credit goes to Yashraj Films for the marvelous job of bringing back the 1-2-3 girl to movies. Yes, world famous painter Husain booked the entire theater in the UAE for his friends to watch his favorite actress latest flick.

The capital of India wasn’t far behind Husain when the whole city turned mad to welcome its ever smiling and dancing star on the anniversary of Ansal Plaza held recently in south Delhi. Kunal Kapoor who plays opposite Madhuri in ‘Aaja Nachle’ was the toast of the lovely girls who lined up at the Plaza. He volunteered himself to spend time with them.
‘Aaja Nachle’ revolves around Dia (Madhuri Dixit), a small town girl who grows up in Shamli, but is one of those people who refuse to be tied down. And she has one great passion, what else except that of dance. Her parents don’t seem to understand her at all. Luckily for her, she has a mentor, a guru, who gives wings to her dreams and gives her the courage to soar. Acting on a whim she breaks all ties with her parents and takes off for New York.

Despite a failed relationship, she rebuilds her life and is happily settled in New York. After nearly a decade, an unexpected phone call shakes Dia out of her dance rehearsal in New York. Makarand (Darshan Zariwala), her teacher (her guru) is dying and she must return to Shamli, the town where she grew up, she learnt to live and to dance. Also the town she left on an impulse, severing ties with her parents and her people.

She comes back but it’s a troubled return for Madhuri. She has not only lost her guru but the institution that the he had so lovingly nurtured is in decay and under threat of demolition. Ajanta theatre, the once vibrant hub of the community, the place where Dia’s fondest memories are embedded must now be brought down because the local political authorities describe it a waste of prime real estate.

With the help of Doctor (Raghubir Yadav), the caretaker of Ajanta, Dia sets out on a mission to prevent the destruction and resurrect the spirit of Ajanta.

aaja-nachle2.jpgIn an atmosphere of mistrust, ridicule and active hostility, Dia picks up the gauntlet and agrees to achieve the near impossible task of putting together a theatrical production. She also ensures that every member of the production is from Shamli town. She has only two months to prove her point otherwise the bulldozers would do their jobs.

In this context begins her tumultuous journey of dealing with small town prejudices, encountering the resentment of the powerful contractor, the cynicism of the local political powers, resolve the delicate tensions of inter personal relationships and rally her motley team of non starters - a low level muscle Imran (Kunal Kapoor), the local tomboy Anokhi (Konkona Sen), local ex-MLA Chaudhary Om Singh (Akhilendra Mishra), a vulnerable tea stall owner Mohan Sharma (Ranvir Shorey), a responsible government official Mr. Chojar (Vinay Pathak), a struggling insurance agent Sanjeev Mehta (Jugal Hansraj), the town vagabond Dhankuber (Nowaz) and a host of others. She must save Ajanta in order to preserve what her guru so lovingly nurtured. She must create art in order to preserve what she believes is the soul of society.

‘Aaja Nachle’ is a movie by Madhuri and for Madhuri. After going through so many projects the bollywood’s 1-2-3- girl chose the script of ‘Aaja Nachle’. What’s the reason behind this is only Madhuri can tell, but for the movie goers wouldn’t mind if we say that Madhuri wants to make her comeback with a big banner like that of Yash Raj Films.

Incidentally, the Yashraj banner has also given the director’s chair to cinematographer-turned-director Anil Mehta. Is Madhuri aware that this is the first film of Anil Mehta as director and if she knows then how she agrees to work with a debutant director and that too in her comeback in the industry after five years’ hibernation.

For making a movie successful at the box office needs a good and bundled script but here Yashraj’s ‘Aaja Nachle’ lacks behind. Besides, the music part is another weak point for ‘Aaja Nachle’. Yashraj comes with two-three hit numbers like the titled track ‘Aaja Nachle’ and ‘Show me your Jalwa’ to get the audience into the theater.

Now, acting-wise Madhuri comes up with her 100 per cent. After seeing the performance of Madhuri, the audience is fully assured that she is still Madhuri or rather a better Madhuri this time!

aaja-nachle3.jpgKonkana Sen Sharma and Kunal Kapoor have a better chance now after getting an acting class from Rituparno in ‘Laga Chuni Mein Daag’ . In fact, Kunal looks well polished in this movie. Other stars too have given their best according to the script’s demand.

Technically, the movie is good and up to the mark. Having a good experience in cinematography, Anil has tried his level best and has been successful in that mission. On the whole ‘Aaja Nachle’ hangs between average and good prospects. Anyway, Madhuri still rocks! Isn’t it?

Abhishek - Aishwarya visit shrine amidst renewed pregnancy rumors | Link Me (New)

Posted by admin | Bollywood, News Updates | Thursday 15 November 2007 11:00 pm

15 November 2007  Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai visited Amin Pir Dargah in the Cuddapah district of Andhra Pradesh and offered prayers and a chaddar Thursday, November 15, amidst renewed speculations that Aishwarya has a bun in the oven. The couple was accompanied by Abhishek’s mother, actress Jaya Bachchan and Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh.
The shrine is dedicated to Sufi saint Pir Amin and is a favorite of celebrities and politicians. Followers of the Dargah believe that any wish that you make at the shrine is always fulfilled.

Since women are not allowed inside the sanctum sanctorum, only Abhishek went inside while Aishwarya offered prayers at the entrance.
Clad in a white kurta payjama and wearing a skull cap, Abhishekh carried flowers on his head to the dargah while Aishwarya, who was wearing a golden color sari and had covered her head with its border, stood in respect.

Hundreds of people gathered at the shrine, which was under tight security, when word about the Bachchan’s visit spread. The couple was expected to arrive at the shrine located around 400 km from Hyderabad at 7:30 AM but reached there by helicopter at 9 AM.
